Last week I visited the beautiful city of Barcelona for the very first time. Upon booking our escape and hearing rave reviews, I knew that I was going like the city, however I had no idea just how head over heels for it I would fall. As the days past I fell more and more in love with the city and found myself thinking “I would love to live here”. Jam packed with fascinating culture , small dogs and strong coffee, the city really won my heart and I have a feeling that I’ll be visiting again very soon.
During our trip we stayed at the wonderful Praktik Garden Hotel – an “Urban Jungle” in the heart of Barcelona. The hotel itself was to die for. The staff were super friendly and the room was just perfect. The hotel’s jungle themed interior was also ultra quirky and unique #straightouttainstagram and to top it all off, Praktik offered free coffee to each of their guests every morning which was a great way to start our busy days. I would 100% recommend the hotel to anyone looking for accommodation in the city!
On the first full day of our trip we visited the amazing La Boqeuria Market. I had looked at so many mouthwatering pictures of the market prior to booking our trip, and the real thing more than lived up to my expectations. Full to the brim with deli stalls selling everything from smoothies to fresh fruit and handmade chocolates , it was a foodies idea of heaven. I could have spent hours sampling everything it had to offer!
Prior to our getaway, we had absolutely no intention of shopping, nor did we realise the amazing variety of stores that the city has to offer. As huge fans of European shops like Bershka, Stradivarius, Zara and Pull and Bear we were absolutely in our element. We really enjoyed browsing around Passeig de Graçia highstreet as well as checking out some of the independent boutiques which can be found in Barcelona’s hip side streets.
Next on our list was the beautiful Park Guell. During our visit, we spent a good few hours exploring the park grounds and taking in the beautiful architecture and mosaics that it had to offer. The grounds of the park are simply stunning and well worth a visit. The Park itself is also home to some of the best views of the city. Side note – I would recommend booking this ahead of time as the queues can be crazy with the park admitting 400 people in every hour.
When booking our holiday we both knew that we wanted to do some water sports or outdoor activities. From researching various excursions / companies online, we stumbled across “Excursions Barcelona” who offer Kayaking and Snorkelling trips in the Costa Brava and seemed to have had amazing feedback from their previous guests, so we decided to go for it! I have to say, I really think that this was the highlight of our trip! From pickup to drop off the day was just perfect. On the morning of the excursion we were driven by bus to a fabulous beach location where we spent the day kayaking, swimming and snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the Costa brava. We were also provided with a fab lunch and were taken back into the city at the end of the day. Our tour guides were super helpful and friendly too, we can’t wait to go back again!
On our last day we intended on heading to Sephora to use up our leftover euros. However as we wandered through the city’s main shopping street we found that all of the stores actually close on a Sunday – rookie mistake on our part. However the day did take a turn for the best as we decided to hop on one of Barcelona’s city sightseeing buses – you know, those big red ones! This was a great way to see everything the city has to offer in just one day. This tour also lead us to one of the most insane / instagram worthy brunch spot in the city – which I’ll talk a bit more about in my Barcelona Food diary post this week.
Overall, we had the most amazing time in Barcelona. The city has so much to offer from amazing shopping streets to beautiful historic attractions. I could have quite happily stayed for another week, however I do believe that we will be back exploring again, sooner rather than later. Barcelona, we love ya!
I also tried my hand at vlogging during our trip, check it out!
