The Instagram Food Tour of Barcelona Part 2
Barcelona Eats Part 2
Last month, my sister and I took a trip to my favourite place in the whole world – Barcelona. This Spanish city really does have it all, from stunning beaches to beautiful architecture. You name it, you’ll find it in Barca. However, there was one thing that particularly stole our hearts – the food. As a massive foodie, checking out the hottest snack spots and trying new things is one of my favourite things to do whilst travelling. Upon visiting the amazing city of Barcelona we were totally spoiled for choice. From chic minimalist coffee hangs to fresh fast food joints, the city is every foodie’s dream. Today I thought I would share some of our favourite foodie finds from our trip.
This year we decided to stay in the beautiful Gracia district of Barcelona which is around half a mile from Catalunya Square (the city centre). Whenever I check into a hotel, one of the first tasks on my agenda is to scout our go-to coffee stop, and Bermont Coffee was just that. During our stay, we visited time and time again and tried a variation of its offerings from the heavenly affogatos to the (well needed) iced lattes -all of which were a dream. I would definitely recommend a trip to this little spot if you find yourself in the Gracia area.
Brunch and Cake
If you have been reading my blog for while now, you might have noticed that we actually visited Brunch and Cake during our last trip to the city. I mean, with food this beautiful how could we resist? As a self-confessed foodie, I have visited quite a lot of cafes over the years, but this one really stands above the rest. Its creations are super tasty and fresh and are presented like nothing I’ve ever seen before. If I could recommend one place to eat in the city, it would definitely be Brunch and Cake! Although I would recommend heading there at non-peak times, as you can imagine the queues can get pretty crazy! This time around I opted for the quinoa burger with matcha bun and a watermelon and sweet potato salad. This was delicious and really quite different – although I think I managed to eats about a quarter of this monster portion. My sister, on the other hand, chose the same meal that she had last time – the spicy chicken nacho sub. Would you just look at that guacamole syringe! We definitely out-hipstered ourselves with this find!
The Dog Is Hot
For those days when you just fancy a little snack on the go, this street food pit stop is for you! With a crazy variety of unique hot dog / veggie dog creations and 15 different hot sauces on offer, The Dog is Hot is the ultimate foodie fuel stop. This would be an awesome option for anyone travelling on a budget!
Situated in Barcelona’s picturesque Gothic Quarter, Departure Coffee is the perfect place to kick back, relax and get caffeinated. The cafe, which also doubles up as an art gallery is a great option for those wishing to escape the buzz of the city’s busy streets for a little bit. Their iced coffees were fab and the staff were really friendly and laid back (even when I was snapping endless Instagrams).
After spotting Rocambolesc’s crazy ice cream creations on Instagram, there was no way that we could pass by this Willy Wonka-esque sugar hut. This ice cream parlour of dreams offers up some of the most unique flavour combinations and toppings that I have ever seen. During our visit, I opted for coconut ice cream topped with tutti-frutti multicoloured stars, passion fruit pearl rocks (I didn’t have a clue what they were either, but they tasted awesome) and candy floss. Doesn’t that just sound like a dream?
It’s no secret that brunch is one of my favourite things in the whole world. I love the idea of just taking things easy and heading out for a late breakfast – especially when on holiday. Prior to heading out to Barcelona my sister and I had scouted out some pretty impressive brunch spots to check off our list and high up there was Citizen cafe. Their menu was just dreamy. After having a good browse, I decided to go for this impressive stack of berry and yoghurt pancakes. My verdict? Well, I think my before and after photos speak for themselves.
Ahh Surfhouse, the old faithful! Although I was aiming to write exclusively about new foodie finds when drafting this post, I just couldn’t hit publish without giving Surfhouse an honourable mention. During our trip last year we visited Surhouse countless times and had some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. Conveniently situated right next to Barceloneta Beach, Surfhouse offers a mouthwatering selection of fresh food, juices and smoothies. They also have a crazy variety of veggie and vegan options too which is awesome! Whilst visiting this time around, I chose the breaded cauliflower tacos with sriracha sauce and oh my, they were pretty damn insane! Being a creature of habit, my sister opted for the chicken burrito (again). To this day she still claims that this is the best burrito she has ever tasted (bold, I know). If you are planning a trip to Barceloneta beach, I would thoroughly recommend heading to Surfhouse for a lunchtime snack!
