5 Products for Glowing Skin this Autumn / Winter

Luminous Base Products

As much as I love the cold crisp air that accompanies this time of year, during these chilly winter I often find that my skin can look a little… flat. Throughout Autumn / Winter I, therefore, tend to switch up makeup bag accordingly – saying adios to those matte finish foundations and welcoming in some dewy, lit from within beauty bits.  Today I thought that I would share a few of my favourite base products for achieving a luminous, glowing skin base – even throughout the nippiest of months.

Fenty Kilowatt Highlighter

As a beauty enthusiast, you can imagine that I was pretty damn excited for the launch of Rihanna Fenty beauty makeup line earlier this month. Upon seeing an abundance of the initial press images, I knew that I just had to pick up one of those Kilowatt highlighters for myself. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect from the line as I am often skeptical of celebrity brand releases (kkw beauty, I’m looking at you). However, upon using this product religiously over the past month, I have been amazed by the quality of this beautiful highlighter. This particular compact contains two blush tones highlights – “Lightening Dust” which has a subtle satin finish and “Fire Crystal” – a shimmer-packed showstopper. Together I feel that this compact makes for the perfect day and night duo and would be excellent for adding that coveted glow to the skin this Autumn / Winter.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

Although I have tried quite a few face powders in my time, nothing (really nothing) quite compares to Hourglass’s beautiful ambient lighting powders. I find these powders to be super unique as they are not as mattifying as a regular face powder but they’re not quite as shimmery or glittery as a highlighter either. The formula of the powder is so finely milled and velvety and texture. This provides the most seamless, airbrushed finish to the skin. If you have one higher end beauty product on your A/W wishlist, let it be this.

Scottish Beauty Blogger 10 Beauty Products I’ll always Repurchase. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion As an oily / combination skin girl, I often feel that my skin requires a little extra help to make sure that my makeup stays … you know, on my face. Therefore primers and bases have become my everyday superheros. Over the years, I have tried various priming products but nothing has come close to the staying power of Urban Decay’s mighty primer potion. From the longest of work days to summer getaways and nights out on the town, this primer potion is guarateed to have your back, keeping shadow creasing at bay! Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water Taking your makeup off at the end of long day has got to be one of the best feelings ever, right? Waterproof mascara, double wear foundation, liquid lipstick you name it, this cleansing water removes it - in a flash. For a speedy removal, Garnier Micellar water is my go to quickie cleanser. The oil infused variation not only removes makeup effectively but adds a little burst hydration to the skin - this is something which I feel that most cleansing waters lack. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation Love that glowy, dewy skin look? You need this product in your life. Foundation is one of my favourite makeup bits to try out and test. However, I am forever returning to this highstreet beauty find. From its lightweight gel texture to its beautiful scent, healthy mix just ticks all of the boxes for me. Ecotools Beauty Sponge Having tested out various tools from the original Beauty Blender to the budget friendly alternative from Real Techniques I have become a total beauty sponge convert. However there is one product that has (surprisingly) trumped them all for me - the Ecotools perfecting blending duo. The duo consists of one large squishy sponge and a smaller, more firm blender. When used together, the two provide the most seamless and flawless makeup application. To be honest, I haven’t purchased many products from Eco Tools in the past, but at the moment, I can’t see myself buying from any other brand anytime soon. NYX Tame and Frame When it comes to brow products, finding something with the perfect shade and texture can be pretty tricky. Last year I had a bit of a disaster in the eyebrow department when I noticed that the wax based pencil I had been using was actually pulling my eyebrow hairs out. Since then I have tried to steer clear of these pencils and opt for gels and pomades. This little find from NYX has been a dream , the “Brunette” shade option matched my brows perfectly and the product itself does not dry up like some others I have tried. Sleek Power Plump Lip Crayon When I first picked up this product last year, I had no idea how much of a staple it would become. “Notorious Nude” is the perfect everyday “your lips but better shade”. As for the formula? Well, it couldn't be any more perfect - it is long lasting, extremely pigmented, moisturising and plumping What more does a girl need? Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural For years (yes, literally years) I have been waiting on a hightreet brand to release something comparable to Mac’s MSF Naturals, however I don’t believe that it has been achieved. This powder provides the perfect amount of coverage which somehow never seems to look cakey or flat. I been repurchasing this product since I was 17 and will most likely continue to do so. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Dim Light This beautiful powder is definitely one of those “You get what you pay for” products. The consistency of the powder is unlike anything I have ever tried. Similarly, the glowy “lit from within glow” it provides is incomparable Kat Von D Tattoo Liner This is one product that I feel that everyone should try at least once. Until a few months ago, I was yet to try out a brush tip liner. Now? I don’t think I would use anything else. This particular liner is packed with long lasting pigment and the applicator makes winged liner a hell of a lot easier! Benefit Roller Lash I have somehow been blessed with pretty long eyelashes so when mascara shopping, I tend to opt for something that curls and volumizes rather than one those that lengthen. When using Rollerlash I don’t even need to pick up those eyelash curlers. Its unique wand seems to cling right onto even the shortest of lashes and lifts them sky high.

Bourjois Healthy Mix

Ahh the old trusty healthy mix. I first picked up this product when I was around the age of sixteen, and since then it has become my absolute ride or die drugstore foundation. Its gel texture feel super hydrating and provides the most beautiful “lit from within” dewy look to the skin. It also smells like a dream! A much as I love my high coverage foundations such as Revlon’s Colorstay and the Estee Lauder Double Wear, I do feel that these can be extremely drying on the skin during the winter months. Therefore, come autumn, I tend to switch them out for my trusty Healthy Mix which provides a little more hydration to my skin.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer

This product is actually relatively new to me, however, it didn’t take long for me to realise I was onto a winner. When it comes to concealer, I haven’t ever really found one that I have loved. This all changed when I stumbled across Bourjois radiance reveal earlier this year. Having loved and used Bourjois base products for years, it should have been a no brainer that their concealers would be equally as amazing. This particular formula is super creamy and pigmented which makes application a dream. It is also ultra brightening – as the name would suggest, which is fab for anyone who’s eyebags are looking a bit too dark for their liking – like mine.

Revlon Highlighter Stick

Now, I have to be honest and say that I am not usually into stick products, I often find that they aren’t all that creamy and tend to drag across my skin. However, this stick from revlon is an absolute game changer. The formula not only melts into the skin but remains there all day long. This particular shade is also extremely complimentary to my pale skin without being overly pigmented or overpowering.
