She wore Rouge Velvet…
It’s beginning to look a lot like… Christmas, well, actually it has looked a lot like Christmas since mid-October but you get the idea. I swear the lead up to the festive season seems to begin earlier as the years go by. As I mentioned in my previous winter beauty post, around this time of year I tend to have a little reshuffle of my makeup bag. For me, this usually results in switching out nude lip shades for winterberry tones. I also tend to substitute my current foundation with nourishing, luminous base products.
As a beauty obsessive, I am also more than keen to test out the season’s latest beauty offerings and love seeing what different beauty brands have brought to the table. This week I have been trying out the hottest new release from one of my favourite highstreet beauty brands – Bourjois.
This season Bourjois have released an entire range of lovely new lippies – the Rouge Velvet Lipsticks. Having already tried (and loved) the liquid version of this formula, I was very intrigued to take the newly released lipstick version for a little spin. So how exactly do these differ to the brands existing lipstick formula? Well, the Rouge Velvet lipsticks are said to provide a highly pigmented matte finish which lasts up to 24 hours. The formula is also said to contain unique moisturising properties which prevent lips from becoming dry or cracked. Sounds like a dream right?
Over the last week or so, I have been wearing these babies at every given opportunity and well, it is safe to say that they have the Lindsey Lou seal of approval! First off, I am a huge fan of the product’s teardrop-shaped applicator. This unique shape makes for a super precise (and speedy) application which would be great for those on the go during the festive season. I would even go as far to say that you’d be safe to skip out on lip liner altogether if you wished.
As for the formula, I found that it was again, really unique. It is very rare that a brand whips up a lightweight formula that really packs a punch, but Bourjois seem to have hit the nail on the head with this one. I would highly recommend heading to the drugstore and testing out the pigmentation for yourself – it is pretty incredible!
However, the one factor that surprised me the most with the Rouge Velvet formula was the product’s ultra-strong staying power. Throughout the day, I checked and checked again (as you do with deep lip shades) each time to expect the product to have smudged or faded. However, to my surprise, these babies did not budge an inch. I did, however, notice a little fading when eating and drinking. However, this is only to be expected – even from the best of longlasting lipsticks. With this being said, the Rouge Velvet lipstick’s ultra-light formula meant that layering and topping up was a breeze.
I personally feel that these matte lippies paired with Bourjois’s Healthy Mix base products would make the perfect festive dream team. As I have mentioned a zillion times on the blog, the brands Healthy Mix foundation is one of my all time favourite base products. It’s gel texture leaves the skin feeling ultra nourished and hydrated which is exactly what look for during the chillier months. If you would like to read more about this fabby foundation you can do so right here.
In summary, I have fallen head over heels for the lightweight, ultra pigmented formulation of Bourjois’s new Rouge Velvet Lipsticks. I cannot wait to sport these throughout the festive period and will no doubt be picking up some of the nude shades within the range! Not done reading just yet?
