Nothing’s gonna touch you in these Golden Years
So, it’s that time of year again where we reminisce about everything we’ve been up to over the past twelve months (yep you guessed it, this is another “Year in Review” post). Personally, I just love this time of year – although I’m not quite sure why. Perhaps it is the thought of a fresh new slate – new year, new me and all that or maybe it is simply the idea of picking up a fresh new journal with all of the trimmings … I’m leaning towards the latter. Anyway, as you might have guessed, today I thought it would be nice to reflect on my blogging journey over the past twelve months and share a few of my personal highlights.
2017 was a great year for the old blog in so many ways. During this time I began to take my hobby a little more seriously – spending more time creating my content and proactively learning new skills to help me improve my work. As of today, I have now been blogging for just under a year and a half. Although this may not be the longest of terms, I have learned so much more than I could have imagined in this short time.
Throughout 2017, I had so much fun sharing my posts with the world, attending some lovely press events and meeting a bunch of epic blogging babes along the way. Upon looking back at my published posts from the past twelve months, I really do feel that my little blog has come a long way (if I do say so myself). Over the year, I tried out various types of content from Instagram food tours to personal style stories. This allowed me to identify the types of content that I enjoy creating the most. More importantly, it has also given me a good indication of what my readers enjoy too. After a few months of feeling a little lost in the blogging “brand” department, I now have a crystal clear vision of how I would like my blog to look and feel. I believe that I have finally found my personal blogging style – and it feels pretty amazing!
The Best Bits
Just when I thought I couldn’t love blogging more, during 2017, I discovered a new found passion for blog /product photography and styling. Throughout the year, I took some time to really “get to know” my camera and played around with all of its snazzy functions and settings. I also decided to bite the bullet and invest in the magical 45mm Olympus lens that everyone and their gran seems to rave about (and quite rightly so). I can confirm that it is every bit as magical as they say.
Although my snaps may not be the most complex or polished, I genuinely love taking photographs to share on my site. Personally, I have always been a huge believer that your best creations will come from doing what you love. For me, 2017 was a perfect example of this. As I spent more time on my blog photography, my snaps improved with each post I shot. Towards the end of 2017, I was even lucky enough to be asked to write a photography post in collaboration Panasonic – yep, I’m still not over it.
Like many bloggers, I like sponsorships to fit in with my blogging “brand” and will only post content that I think my readers will be interested in. Therefore, when Panasonic approached me and asked if I would like to share a little bit about my flatlay styling tips and tricks, I was absolutely over the moon. I realise that speaking/writing about sponsored content can be somewhat taboo but being approached by such a huge brand – and being paid to do what I love was a real blogging highlight for me. To my delight, this post actually turned out to be one of my most popular pieces of all time. My corresponding Instagram snap also received more likes than most of my photos to date – thanks to the uber-supportive bloggin’ community – you guys are the best!
Speaking of community, last year I was lucky enough to meet a whole host of inspiring bloggers and creatives from all over the globe. I even managed to finally put some faces to names and meet up with some of my favourite local blogging gals in real life! This is something that I would love to do more often throughout 2018. There is something pretty cool about finding people who are on your wavelength and who can relate to all of your #bloggerproblems – especially when they live right on your doorstep!
In conclusion, 2017 was a pretty dreamy year for Lindsey Lou. From meeting some of the loveliest blogger babes out there to learning a bucketload of new skills and landing my first sponsored post, it really was magical. 2018, I am so ready for ya!
p.s I was initially planning on ending this post with a list of my goals for the forthcoming year, however, this “little” roundup piece seems to have grown arms and legs (I do love a good ramble). Therefore, I will publish my goals in a separate “Blogging Bucket List” post – which will be coming your way this Monday. I really hope that you enjoyed this summary of my blogging journey – I’d also love to hear about your highlights from the past year!
