Roadtrippin’ with CCW

As you may have spotted over on my Instagram, last Sunday I embarked on blogger road trip with fab people from CCW Glasgow. I have to say that this was by far one of the coolest blogger experiences that I have had to date – and the icing on the cake? The lineup of lovely blogger babes I spent it with which included Lis of Last Year’s Girl, Ellis of Ellis Tuesday , Gillian of Elevator Musik, Lauren of The Luxe List, and last but not least the lovely Roisin of Rose Keats. Today I thought it would be nice to reminisce about our super-fun trip, share a little bit about what we got up to and tell you all you need to know about CCW.

What is CCW?

Caledonian Countrywear (CCW) is an independent Scottish retailer which offers a carefully curated lineup of functional, fashionable outdoor brands that won’t let you down. With three stores in Scotland (Glasgow Byres Road, Callander and St. Andrews),  CCW is one of the last truly independent, family run retailers of its kind in the country (pretty impressive, right?). In all honesty, I have to say that I didn’t know all that much about the store prior to meeting the (lovely) CCW staff and store owners. However, these types of trips are all about learning and really getting to know brands first hand, right?

Times are a changin’

Initially, when CCW was first founded back in 1986, the store primarily stocked mostly “outdoors-y” type items such as tents and hiking boots. However, although elements of the original CCW are still present – the store is now a lot more style focussed and offers up an impressive selection of high-quality fashion-led labels. E.g  Lighthouse, Mousqueton and Fjallraven (a personal favourite of mine). Upon chatting to the CCW team, it became clear that the true aim of the retailer is to curate a collection of truly stylish pieces which are built to last – and this is something I can really get on board with.

The Roadtrip

Our day kicked off at CCW’s Byre’s Road store where we were greeted with the most beautiful cake from the extremely talented bakers at Rawnchy Glasgow (would you just look at those flowers). At this point, we had the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the brand, browse the store’s fab selection of clothing items and ask any questions that we might have had. Once fully informed, it was time to pick up our road trip-ready outfits for the day –  provided by Sorel, Mousqueton and Lighthouse clothing – just three of the amazing brands stocked at the store. Of course, all five of us had unknowingly picked out matching striped Lighthouse jackets which made for some funny photos later in the day #bloggerlife.

Time for an OOTD

Speaking of outfits,  when it came to picking out our clothing for the day, I opted for this b-e-a-utiful Parisien style striped top from Moutqueton. The material of which is super soft and extremely comfortable which was perfect for our day of exploring!  For outerwear I chose this lovely nautical inspired number from Lighthouse clothing – it’s waterproof, it has pockets and looks super chic – what more could a girl ask for? Finally, for footwear, I picked out these walking boots by Sorel – which proved to be extremely comfortable! I would, however, recommend sizing up like I did as the sizes tend to run quite small.

It’s Go Time!

All kitted out and ready to go, we hit the road with the Luke from the fantastic Eco Tour Scotland. Eco Tour is an independent tour company which is committed to providing exceptional,  small group tours of Scotland. Seating a maximum of 8 people, the company offers access to hidden beauty spots of the Scottish Countryside that large tour companies just can’t reach – you know, like those perfect Insta-spots (bloggers, Luke has got your back).  The 6+2 seater van is also wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly,  equipped with a charging bank and a has an AUX cable so that you can be your own DJ – pretty impressive, eh?!

Pink Buildings and Puppies

After an hour an a half of the most beautiful, scenic journey through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, we arrived at our first stop of the day – Mhor Hotel and Restaurant. As we drove up to the building, our eyes widened as we spotted the millennial pink building (would you expect anything less). Really though, it was just so beautiful. We were then introduced to Mhor’s two resident pups – Tinker and Rose and lead through the courtyard of the hotel to our dining room where we refuelled for the day.

For lunch, I opted for a good old soup and sandwich – which was served on freshly baked bread from Mhor’s very own bakery. What can I say? It definitely hit the spot! After tucking into our delicious lunch, we were then transported (with the puppies – eek) to the edge of Loch Voil, where we took in some insanely beautiful views of the surrounding area and snapped some photos of “The Look Out” art installation which is situated on Mhor’s grounds.

Next stop? CCW HQ!

Upon arriving at CCW’s headquarters in the quaint town of Callendar, we were lucky enough to chat over coffee with the (lovely) founders of CCW-  Liz and Bill.  This gave us a great opportunity to hear all about the history of the brand, as well and learn a little bit about CCW’s buying and quality control processes. Personally, I sometimes get the impression that with businesses which have been running for as long as CCW has, there can sometimes be a  tendency to get stuck behind in the times. However, this could not be further from the truth in the case of CCW. In fact,  Bill and Liz’s forward-thinking, passion-filled approach to their business was extremely refreshing to hear about – it’s no wonder that the company has been going strong for 30 years!

Cake and Coffee from Cafe Circa – inside the CCW HQ

Full to the brim with cake, and all chatted out – we then made our way back to Glasgow city centre after the best road trip we could ever have asked for. I am now more excited than ever to explore a little more of the country I call home and my chic yet practical outfit picks from CCW will be perfect for doing so! Finally, I’d just like to say a huge thanks to the team at CCW for organising such a fun day for us bloggers, we really did have the best time! It was so great to not only learn more about CCW as a retailer but to meet the lovely brains behind this fantastic store too.
